Coastal Evolution: Late Quaternary Shoreline Morphodynamics by R. W. Carter,

Coastal Evolution: Late Quaternary Shoreline Morphodynamics by R. W. Carter,
The shoreline is a rapidly changing interface between the land and the sea. Much of the world's population lives in the coastal zone, and coasts are under threat from a variety of natural and anthropogenic impacts, such as climate or sea-level change. Understanding the natural dynamics of a shoreline is essential in order to assess these ongoing and future impacts. This book is a result of an international initiative to study how coastlines change and how they have evolved over the last few thousand years. Coastal Evolution introduces some of the latest concepts in coastal morphodynamics, recognising that coasts develop through co-adjustment of process and form. Particular types of coast, such as deltas, estuaries, reefs, lagoons and polar coasts, are examined in detail, with conceptual models developed on the basis of well-studied examples. The book is a contribution to the International Geological Correlation Programme Project 274, 'Coastal Evolution in the Quaternary'. Coastal Evolution is written with a broad audience in mind: undergraduates who are studying coastal geomorphology, geologists who are mapping coastal sedimentary sequences, and environmental scientists, engineers, planners and coastal managers who need to understand the natural processes of change that occur on shorelines.

The Evolution of the Genome
The Evolution of the Genome
The Evolution of the Genome provides a much needed overview of genomic study through clear, detailed, expert-authored discussions of the key areas in genome biology. This includes the evolution of genome size, genomic parasites, gene and ancient genome duplications, polypoidy, comparative genomics, and the implications of these genome-level phenomena for evolutionary theory. In addition to reviewing the current state of knowledge of these fields in an accessible way, the various chapters also provide historical and conceptual background information, highlight the ways in which the critical questions are actually being studied, indicate some important areas for future research, and build bridges across traditional professional and taxonomic boundaries. The Evolution of the Genome will serve as a critical resource for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and established scientists alike who are interested in the issue of genome evolution in the broadest sense.

Society for the Study of Evolution - The Society for the Study of Evolution was formed in the United States in 1946 to promote evolution and the integration of various fields of science concerned with evolution and to organize the publication of a scientific journal to report on new research on evolution across a variety of fileds.

Evolution (journal) - Evolution, the International Journal of Organic Evolution, is a bimonthly scientific journal that publishes significant new results of empirical or theoretical investigations concerning facts, processes, mechanics, or concepts of evolutionary phenomena and events. Evolution is published by the Society for the Study of Evolution.

Evolution (TNG episode) - Evolution is the first episode of the third season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. While studying a binary star that is about to explode, the Enterprise-D computer starts malfunctioning jeopardising the study and the ship.

John Williams (water scientist) - Dr John Williams is an Australian scientist whose life work has been in the study of hydrology and the use of water in the landscape and farming.
